What Makes a Quintessential Garden Wedding?

England is known worldwide for many reasons, some of which include the Royal Family, quaint villages scattered across the countryside and our love for afternoon tea. At Parish’s House, we have come to love the beauty and tranquility the countryside offers on our very own doorstep. We count ourselves lucky to be able to sit with a cuppa and look out across the lawns to see the vast rolling hills of the South West. It has got to be one of the best views in Somerset if we may be so bold to say so making it what we consider a perfect background for photographs!

As the curators of an ever-so-English country garden, complete with century old trees, colourful flowers and our very own kitchen garden, we pride ourselves in knowing just what it takes to create the perfect English country garden wedding and we can’t wait to share some of these top tips with you today.

The Weather

English weather is always a hot topic in any conversation. Go ahead and see how long it takes us to mention the weather. It’s what we do! Now, to say the weather is always awful would be a lie because it’s not. I like to think of English weather as having a personality and like anything with a personality, it comes with its phases and unpredictability. This means can experience all of the seasons in just one afternoon but this is no cause for worry as cloud cover can make for beautifully dramatic photos and sometimes a bit of rain makes for incredible memories.

An Abundance of Flowers

Let’s face it, it wouldn’t be a garden wedding without flowers. Our gardens are filled with colourful flowers which allows our Brides to get creative with their colour palette and floral décor. Imagine a spring wedding with photographs in our field full on bluebells which is one of our favourite spots to walk by that time of year or a bouquet filled with Dahlias. Our list of ideas could go on and on so we recommend getting inspired by walking through the gardens yourself or even bringing your florist along!

Tea and Cake

We know you’re meant to celebrate with bubbles but nothing is quite like a cup of English tea at the end of the day. Instead of a typical cocktail hour you could transform it into a garden party! Everyone loves beautifully painted china and glassware which could feature your favourite English blooms as well!

A Touch of the Vintage

Whether it’s dreamy pastel bridesmaids dresses, velvet button backed sofas in an outdoor chill out zone, or delicate lace on an ivory gown, the English countryside is at its beautiful best when paired with delicate, romantic hues.

If you love the sound of a quintessentially English garden wedding then we would love to have you come see the grounds for yourself. You’ll be inspired every corner you turn and you’ll understand just why we’re so in love with it and have to share the gardens with you.
