How to Postpone Your Wedding During a Pandemic

So you were planning to get married this year but now you’re going to have to postpone. You don’t know how long this pandemic will last or how long the government will impose its restrictions. You’re isolated at home and so is everyone else so the questions about your wedding are flowing in and the panic sets in. Where do you start!

Well we’ve made a list of things to do and people to contact who can help you get through this tough time of postponing your wedding without professional help.

Start

First, make a deadline for yourself to make this decision by. It’s a tough decision to make and you need to be sure it’s the right one for you. About 2 months before your wedding date is a good starting point if you’ve got a summer wedding. This will everyone’s mind at ease and buy you some peace to decide what to do.

Back-up Date

You’ll then need to contact your venue if they haven’t reached out to you already. What are they doing with regards to postponements. Do they recommend you postpone? What other dates are available as a back-up? Can they hold a date until you make your decision? Get a few options to share with your vendors to make sure the majority of them will be able to make the move to a new date with you.

Vendors

Great! You’ve got a few options for a back-up date. Now to check if your vendors are all available and can change the date. Be sure to let them know that you are working to a deadline so they don’t assume your moving dates right away.

Some key vendors to contact-

• Photographer

• Caterer

• Florist

• Celebrant/Officiant

• Band/DJ

• Stationer

If they aren’t available, that’s okay. They will have had other postponements or bookings on that date already. You’ve got enough time to find another supplier.

Deadline

Your deadline date has arrived but you are calm and ready. This is what we’ve been preparing for. Either, you’ll be able to go ahead with your original date or you’ve got to change the date.

If you’re changing dates, your framework is already laid out. Get in touch with everyone you contacted before, starting with the venue, to confirm the postponement.

Change the Date

So you’ve successfully changed your wedding date. Well done! Now what about your guests? Many stationers have been creating digital ‘Change the Dates’ for couples who need to let their guests know about the postponement. How chic!
